Could Age be Just a Number?

One of the current trends in today’s society is the increasing popularity of dating a partner that is old enough to be your own parent. Men do it, females do and yes having a “Sugar Daddy” or a “Cougar” also has its benefits. There are arguments around whether or not it is right there are most definitely stipulations of dating someone who could be your actual dad. Now everyone knows that one girl from high school that dates only older men. This is a conversation I have had with friends over coffee or chat. I have argued relentlessly with other people saying individuals are allowed to be just that-individuals. Yes there are people who would question my values and personal beliefs, why is it that I am so accepting with what I expect of other people and their choices. Then again that is the point, after all,the choice is theirs to make.

The whole point is why is it that a male dating an older woman is seen as a stud and being a glorious pedestal of make ego? He gains the respect of his peers both males and females. He is seen glorious and having had a game so amazing every one else wants to be like him. Assuming for the most part this is reference to adults consenting to a mature and sexual relationships, or in most case consenting teenagers in a sexual relationship. When examined from popular psychoanalytic theories it is probably every teen boy’s dream to be a “teacher’s pet” Then again who are we to argue anything different from hormone booming teenage girls.

Females on the other hand are more seemingly judged as being mentally deranged when prompt to having a male partner older enough to be her father. The stares and restless unreasonable is eventually an after effect for young women who participate in these relationships. I’ve asked male friends, I have asked female friends and for the most part it is just seen as a sketchy looking situation. And, yes in return the question I propose is, why is it male dating an older woman seen as more socially acceptable that females dating a guy in the same age range. It is the stipulation. Men would always love their mother but,hey if he wanna be with another kid’s mother;well damn,he most definitely have game! Females on the other hand should by no level of sexist denotation should incline oneself to a sexual relationship with her dad!

Of course there are beneficent of dating an older person. Your Momma or Daddy would be more established (Or at least they should).Hopefully, they would be more emotionally experienced and more definitely they are a form of financial support. I know personally some girls and guys who choose to go for older people because of what the other person can do for them. The feeling of an emotional security from a relationship stand-point is something these individuals look towards. The harsh reality is young adults aren’t always emotionally stable, or even for the most part lack emotional intelligence to in order to conceptualize sensitivity on our peers’ part. There are varying reasons for why people choose the relationships that they pursue. Throughout the years if there is anything that I have learnt best it is that you simply cannot judge a book by its cover. A lot of people have “parental issues” or have been molested and they within themselves find varying alternative to come to term with their past. Some of which they had to exempt and forcefully find themselves taking the role of adulthood from yet a very early age. So the question lies within itself, “Could age honestly just be a number?”

From Canada to Peru

This is absolutely amazing

Colibrí

As the departure date for UW’s International Development students’ 8-month placements draws nearer, my excitement is growing stronger. On days when my nerves start getting the best of me I find that I must remind myself what an amazing learning and growing experience this will be and, most of all, that everything will be okay. This post will be dedicated to where I will be living for 8 months of my life starting this coming September (only 2 months away!!) and the organization I will be working with.

I’ll be living in Tarapoto, a city in northern Peru about an hour away from Lima – the country’s capital – by plane. Tarapoto’s main activities are tourism, commerce, and agriculture. It is a set-off point for tourist excursions into the Amazon Rainforest as well as river rafting and hiking in the Andes. As for climate, Tarapoto is hot and humid year-round…

Almost There… Yet This Darn CrossRoads

Is the Cup Half-Empty or Half-Full?

So it is April. It is the last month of school (EEP!!). Writing it out is even more scary than saying it out loud. With that there comes a ton of extra stress.Assignments are left to be completed, the job search is underway, the competition is on, thoughts of graduation, and Oh Dear God! I am freaking out. Less than a month left and the anticipation is killing me. Urghh!!

R.I.P. Aunt Laura
This morning I started my day off pretty darn nice. I took a couple of breathers but I still feel stressed. Yes, not to mention the death of one of my most favorite persons ….Aunt Laura ( May Your Soul R.I.P.) I had a pretty sketchy March. It was sulky, there were deaths, winter refused to end. But I had done some fasting; reflect more of life some more. That, my friends was a good thing. It seems as if no matter how you may have it together being assured (of anything really) is always ideal.

It is Spring!

“Life is a journey, not a destination.” It is gonna be tough as hell…..sometimes you take one step forward and it feels as if yah have been kicked like 10 steps back. Oh well, the good news is; It is Spring!! Well, not the best news(especially if reside in Canada), but the stipulation of that is summer is on the way! You live to learn and it is one step at a time.

Three more weeks….Let’s do this!

Childhood On Trial [At-Risk Youth]

Ain’t that the harsh truth

Childhood On Trial”

By Ashley “Chula” Jenelle

It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men” – Frederick Douglass

One mistake – and labeled for life.

The cries from a cold cell are just echoes of pain from a child’s heart. The urge to be understood and loved unconditionally are just simple requirements these children request. These children starve for attention but constantly feel hopeless behind barbed wires. Feelings of abandonment are quickly vanished when society rejects a child and stamps a label that reads “useless, stupid, monster, or crazy”. A child’s brain is still at that stage where they soak up information like a sponge. In result, that child will not only live up to that label, but they will accept it. When these children act out but truly want help, they’re punished and sent to a cell. If a child has been neglected…

about the IMF and how it’s nothing new… and me and you a part a di problem

mooretalkja

so,

as you may or may not know Jamaica is about the enter Tax Armageddon as a part of a)trying to ‘save’ the country and b)the IMF  ‘deal’ that we may or may not get.

I use the quotation marks to imply the highest levels of shade possible and I hope they are read just like that. I am not an economist, but I have done a bit of reading on the IMF and Jamaican’s economic history, either way i’m  not speaking as an economist, i’m speaking as a Jamaican.

IMF is the modern day incarnation of babylon and yet another imperialist mission into the countries of the Third World. Very few countries that sign IMF deals ever get out of them and stay out of them.

Add to that the fact that through the IMF the powerful countries get policy making power in the so-called developing countries, especially those…

The seed has been planted

Now…. what is next?

It is like the game of Chess

Yes, it is always fun

Make a wrong move and it may be done

It is the consequence that gets paid for being  indulged

Being a winner is always great,

But it also means looking out for everyone

The Queen protects her king

And he in return, mightily rules

Yes, but actions

They should be branches of thriving trees

Connected, in tune

For every action there is a reaction,

So I saw these two commercial. They were both making fun of Jamaica and Jamaican. I honestly don’t know if they went a bit too far. What is your take?

MoWhitz Expressions

Give this ad a listen

Funny isn’t it? No? RACIST??? Alright then….. take a look at this one!

Still think that the former is racist? I don’t…

Re the VW commercial, there is absolutely nothing wrong with saying that Jamaicans are always happy. Actually, in my opinion, it is absolutely hilarious to hear them try to speak like us.  “Hey Julia, turn the frown, the other way around!” haha gapingly hilarious!! But, that’s beyond the point being made. This German commercial….burning our flag (“accidentally”, as a dear friend on facebook puts it) and to my amazement, trampling on the Jamaican flag….Now this is utmost disrespect!! Why dem couldnt throw wata pon it??

As Jamaicans we are not allowed to let the flag touch the ground, yet another country is burning our flag and trampling on it???? Nah man!!!

But watch this…..

To all the Love Fanatics..What do y’all think?

yawdyabroad

So it is post-valentines day and he says do you want my Phone? Then my response was, ” Of course I want your phone!” Who doesn’t want the Samsung Galaxy SIII?” Fifteen minutes later he offers another two of his prized possessions; his DJ system and his PlayStation III.I start shitting bricks of course. Like which guy would ever trade up things he hold so dear to his heart. So now my response was,”Are you OK?” What on God’s earth can be compared to the love that men have with their gadgets? This guy must seriously be running a fever(or maybe woke up on the wrong side of bed this morning). Like who would have thought of this?
I earnestly am not the biggest fan of any form of celebration except for life. Hence, I don’t celebrate Valentines Day. Then I seriously asked, “Why do you wanna give me your stuff?”…

I earnestly am not the biggest fan of any form of celebration except for life. Hence, I don’t celebrate Valentines Day. Then I seriously asked, “Why do you wanna give me your stuff?” He responded because you have been really good lately(still lost). The moral of the story is being good pays off (I guess). Even if you refuse relentlessly to accept the self-indulgent gifts of valentines day. The bigger picture is that love if shown on the 365, has its perks. You never know what it is — as for me (grins uncontrollably), it is a game system, and new smart-phone.
